SCOUT LEADER CELEBRATES 40 YEARS AT THE TOP
(6th Dec 2012)
On Monday, 3rd December, Peter Evans, a Barry “boy”, celebrated 40 years service with the 11th Barry Sea Scout Group as a leader. He joined the Group in 1962 as a cub scout and rose through the ranks as a scout and then a Venture scout.
On his 18th birthday he became the Group Assistant Cub Scout Leader and four years later he took over the section by becoming Cub Scout Leader, taking the name of AKELA, a character from Rudyard Kipling’s “Jungle Book”. During this period Peter has had nearly 1000 children under his care.
Despite getting married and moving to live in Cardiff he has continued to give his time to the Group. Earlier this year, in the St George’s Day awards he was presented with the Silver Acorn. This is an award which recognises more than 30 years of dedicated service to scouting. The Group is indebted to Peter for his loyalty.
Jane Hutt, A.M., congratulated Peter Evans on his exemplary and long-standing service as a Barry sea Scout cub leader for 40 years.
