Barry Beavers take over local Library
(Feb 2015)

Beavers at Barry Library

On the evening of the 6th February Beavers for both 11th and 5th Barry Sea Scout groups attended a Harry Potter themed sleepover at Barry Library.

Over 50 beavers came along and participated in a variety of Harry Potter themed activities which included making their own Wand. The staff at the Library also organised a very good treasure hunt around the ground floor of the Library. The Beavers learnt all about the various statues and some of the books around the Library.

The night was rounded off with the Beavers watching a Harry Potter film and having a cup of Hot Chocolate before settling down for the night. The Beavers all slept on the ground floor of the Library and in the morning they all tucked into a delicious sausage or bacon bap from Greggs.

After breakfast the Beavers visited a "Pop-up" Planetarium that was being displayed in the Library, which was very enjoyable. The beavers were very excited asked lots of questions. The whole activity was rounded off with a play in Central Park before they all went home, probably to play some more, whilst the Leaders went home for a well deserved rest.

For many of the Beavers from both Groups this was their first time sleeping out with the Beavers, earning them their 1st Nights Away..

The Leaders of Both 11th Barry Sea Scout Group and 5th Barry Sea Scout Group want to say a big thank you to all at the Libray and the Council who helped put this on. In particular we wish to especially thank Gillian, Katherine and the Security Guard Adam, who put up with 50+ beavers disturbing what we're sure is normally a nice quiet night shift.
